Facts about Annual Wellness Visit

For more than 40years Medicare provided seniors with health coverage. Medicare concentrated on treating beneficiaries’ conditions and diseases when they are already affected rather than emphasizing preventive care to keep people healthy in the first place.
So, when the affordable care act was passed all this changed:Medicare launched this benefit to all their members in 2010. Their goal is “to keep all their members healthy in the first place rather than treating them after they got sick”.
This visit will render information about your health, which in turn will provide an opportunity for you and your doctor to develop a personalized preventive plan to improve your health and prevent disease
Medicare covers an Annual Wellness Visit at no cost to you when you are enrolled in Original Medicare or a Medicare Managed Plan.

These visits are not subject to Medicare part B deductibles, co-insurance or co-payments, meaning there is no expense to you.

What’s included in the Annual Wellness Visit

Vital sign measurements (height weight blood pressure Body mass index)
Review of medical & family history
Review of medications, supplements & allergies
Discussion of care you are currently receiving from other health care provider
Functional ability & level of safety (risk of falling) screening
Cognitive impairment screening
Depression screening
Discussion of personalized health advice: risk factors (weight loss, physicalactivity, smoking cessation, fall prevention & nutrition)
Discussion of referrals to other appropriate health education or preventivecounseling services that may help to minimize or treat potential health risks
Planning screening & preventive services you will need over next 5-10 years
